There are many walks in the surrounding area that you don’t even need to drive to. If you have young children, a walk/stroll from Elsie’s úllord on the back lane can take anywhere between 20 minutes to an hour and a half depending on how much your children amble while picking blackberries or wild strawberries! While there are many walks locally to explore by foot or bike, a short drive will take you to some beautiful areas to explore yourselves.
Walk 1: Troll’s Waterfall ~ Eas Troll ar
A beautiful walk through woodland and along a cascading rich waterfall with two bridges A steep climb to begin with & and a steep decline to end. This walk offers beauty all around with the sound of water, the views of Lough Gill at the midway point & to end the woodland to explore…Approximately 40 minute stroll with children, but worth doing the walk twice!

Walk 2: Wild Strawberries ~ Sútha talún fiáin
A gentle short walk on the outskirts of Drumshanbo. A great walk for a picnic and to gently stroll along. On a day out you would have plenty of time to explore the village here and see some of the sights we have suggested previously around Lough Allen.
Walk 3: Marble Arch River walk ~ abhainn siúl
This is a lovely walk along a river and trough rich woodland with lots of nature to observe. At the beginning of the walk there are plenty of places for a picnic, camp fire and a quick paddle! With a stream/river to walk along side, a waterfall to see & a coffee shop at the top…this walk is energising but not too long for children.
Walk 4: Slish Wood ~ Slish adhmad
Lough Gill, calm and beautiful, fills the valley between the rugged mountains of Killerry and Keelogyboy a little east of Sligo town. The dragon-shaped lake is thickly wooded, especially along the south shore where ancient Slish Wood runs steeply down the lower slopes of Killerry to meet the water among big mossy boulders.
Walk 5: Snake’s Stream ~ Sruth nathair ar
The path follows the edge of the parkland along a woodland fringe, and beside the Larganess River where it twists and winds almost magically through the wood land and over bridges. It returns to the car park through the gardens of Florence Court House.
Walk 6: The Dawn Of Hope
A local walk where you can begin straight from Pink Apple Orchard – with stunning views of Lough Allen, The Iron Mountains and the surrounding beautiful Leitrim landscapes.
