The tranquility and serenity of nature! Breath in and absorb…that is what Elsie’s orchard is all about. It’s time for yourself, time for your family and time for your friends. There is no need to step further if its relaxation you would like and time to unwind. You can discover more about the garden & look for  birds, butterflies & flowers. See which you can find or see yourselves…from the Chaffinch, Blue & Great tit, Coal Tit, Song Thrush, Swallow, Pied Wagtail, Wren & Robin. The different varieties of butterflies spotted so far are The Tortoiseshell, The Small White, Small Heath or the dark Green Fritillary.  Take time out just to sit, to read, play an instrument, bake or cook at your leisure. 

 

Although not actually in the orchard, We have Canadian canoes (life jackets supplied) that are available for use when booking, please enquire. You can book when on sight when weather conditions can be observed. The terms and conditions must be read and understood when booking.

Book  a Canadian Canoe Guided Tour along the shores of Lough Allen. With a small group of friends or a family adventure, work as team and experience the beauty the lake has to offer. You will be able to see Inishmagrath Island and canoe round to the next bay where you will encounter a little history, skim stones and swim if the weather is right! A beautiful way to see and explore nature. 

 

 

Build a Pizza: We will provide all the freshly made dough and  ingredients needed for pizzas to be created and then cooked in the out door traditionally made pizza oven. €20.00 Per Person. (Minimum of 12 pizzas/booking)

Locally, 5 Minute Drive: Drumkeeran, Dowra. Return Price Depends on Numbers travelling.

Locally, 20 – 25 Minute Drive: Dromahair, Blacklion, Drumshanbo. 

Nearest Town, 35 – 40 Minute Drive: Carrick-On-Shannon, Sligo, Enniskillen. Return Per Person €20/€30 large groups only. For couples/small groups, cost could be €45/€50 one way. 

We offer a local taxi number if needed on sight so you can arrange taxis for yourselves.

The locally loved beach – Corry Strand of which many pictures can be viewed on our gallery page and also many on this page in the slideshows. We as a family spend many hours & days here enjoying the freedom & the spectacular setting. From Elsie’s orchard the beach can be accessed by Canadian canoe, car or foot! 

 

Drumkeeran Heritage Centre celebrates the history of the Drumkeeran area. Here you can experience a beautifully reconstructed Irish Cottage and farmyard in a unique site that draws inspiration from the magnificent rugged landscape surrounding mountains, lakes and woods. 

 

The Holy Wells in Ballinaglera are known for their idyllic locations (St. Hugh’s Well) and rumoured healing powers (St Brigid’s Well).

 

The Shannon Pot a 15 meter pool that is the source of the Shannon River, is located just a short drive out of Dowra. The water is said to come from several different sources and flows underground before emerging here at this mystical pool in the shadow of the Cuilcagh Mountains. A 5 minute drive from here will take you to The Cavan Burren – www.cavanburren.ie This beautiful spot offers many walking routes. Often seen are deer, stags and horses. Along with all the nature, there are many geological and archaeological heritage sites to stumble across as you amble around.

 

In 20 minutes you can appreciate some great history at The Arigna Mining Museum. Great for all ages, with a lovely cafe, stunning view point and you can buy hot food and a cuppa.

A Fabulous Circular Route of Lough Allen!

 

Take a drive and include sight seeing by car while stopping off at he suggested destinations for walks, picnics, children’s play or a hot cup of tea! Views and pictures for many of these destinations can be viewed on our activities page and the gallery page.

 

Begin a 2 minute drive to Corry Strand, our much loved local ‘beach’. Only a 5 minute drive from here you reach Drumkeeran park & Drumkeeran Heritage Centre. Then the road (R280) will take you to a perfect family picnic spot! Spencer Harbour. Continuing with breathtaking views to your left all the way to Drumshanbo. Time for a Guinness in one of the local pubs, a play in the park with tennis courts, outside heated swimming pool, a jetty area and Acrea Lake Floating Board Walk! Visit The Food Hub, to view The Carrig Brewing Company and soon Drumshanbo’s Gun Powder Irish Gin Distillery. Following the route around the East side of Lough Allen (R207) for more stunning views of the lake on your left.  A pit on your left at Gubarusheen Jetty/picnic spot, just a few km on to your right you will stumble across an ancient megalithic tomb and walk way which does connect to The Leitrim Way. You will arrive in Balinaglera…and visit one of two unique pubs you are still able to buy a drink, a tin of beans, a newspaper & some milk all in 1 room! Also in Balinaglera is a children’s park; in case children still have energy to burn!? The last village to pass through is Dowra. If you need any groceries; P.S Loughlin’s or Spar before arriving back on the home road (R200) to your comforting, awaiting accommodation at Pink Apple Orchard.
